Music From the Studio
Paul Housley

Published by Belmacq and the artist, this beautifully produced book presents a collection of new paintings.

Paul Housley was born in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester in 1964 and lives and works in London. He has MA Painting, Royal College of Art, London, 1995 and BA Fine Art (hons), Sheffield City Polytechnic, South Yorkshire, 1986. Housley often adopts and combines the iconic styles of past masters like Velazquez, Picasso, and Rembrandt. His intensely gestural paintings are not ironic appropriations, but self-deprecating, troubled homages to art history's most celebrated geniuses. Modest in scale, his expressive paintings often feature un-heroic subjects like toy figurines, cats, and stuffed animals. Housley has shown widely. Recent solo exhibitions include Zieher Smith and Sunday Gallery in New York, Belmacz in London, Monte Clark Gallery in Vancouver and Bianca arte Contemporanea in Palermo. He has shown at Transition numerous times including in Unplanned Memories in 2014.

Housley's work also features on the cover and in a portfolio in Garageland 20: Remake Remodel
