Wright's paintings depict painted models or objects, exploring the gap between reality and representation.
In a recent series of works, the objects depicted have been hastily made from scraps of cardboard and then coarsely painted. Somewhere between models and sculptures, these crude, child-like constructions are transient props for slower, deliberate and more controlled paintings.
"I'd rather paint from my own model of a chair than a real chair. It is the difference between the reality (or ideal) and the model that interests me; the latter resulting from a series of arbitrary decisions and referring as much to painting and sculpture as to any primary reality."
