Ritual Abuse in Liphook - Video Still - 2003

‘Ritual Abuse in Liphook’ and other non-fictions…Nicky Magliulo’s gothic mini-series is set within a backdrop of suburban banality. Referencing reality tv and documentary, the work employs a sexy, comic quality, however the subject matter, tight camera angles and titles themselves hint at something altogether more sinister.

Nicky will also be exhibiting her ‘drawing side project’ Nick Valaine’s fairytale portraiture inspired by Edward Gorey’s subversive parody the Gashlycrumb Tinies.

Nicky Magliulo is based in London and has recently exhibited within the UK, Berlin and at the Liverpool Biennale. Forthcoming exhibitions include Bloomberg New Contemporaries, Barbican 17 Nov – 15 Jan 2005 and the Darklight Film Festival, Dublin 17 – 21 Nov, 2004.
