The starting point of Thompson’s Still paintings is an image from Stalker, the 1979 film by Andrei Tarkovsky. In line with Thompson’s interests, landscape, nature, setting and atmosphere are primary and essential to the film’s story. The palette she used is distinctive and particular, and the dark green in the paintings (the colour she says that she probably uses the most in her work) features very prominently in the sections of the film that are set in ‘The Zone’.
