Alli Sharma’s work explores identity, class and our relationships with others, often by taking an ambiguous glance back at her own history, unearthing memories to create revealing, gestural paintings.
Her Familiars series examines creatures that according to folklore were the supernatural, shape-shifting companions of witches.
Sharma is based in London and graduated from Central St Martins in 2007. Recent exhibitions include Painting Past Present: A Painters’ Craft, Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle, 2013; The Dream Machine, Sluice Art Fair, Bermondsey, London, 2013; Wintergarden, Sutton House, London, 2013; Duplicity, Transition Gallery, London, 2013; Idle Worship, Centre for Recent Drawing, London 2012; and Perfect Nude touring to Wimbledon College of Art, Phoenix Gallery, Exeter and Charlie Smith, London, 2012. In 2014 she will be in Stowaways, Weekend Gallery, Los Angeles.
