So
I turned myself to face me
But Ive never caught a glimpse
Of how the others must see the faker
Im much too fast to take that test*
Transition presents
Alleyoops the first solo gallery show by the artist Cathy
Lomax.
Imagine an upside down world where nothing is as it really seems
and anything is possible. This is Alleyoops, a place teetering
on the edge of social chaos, where fame and fulfilment are no longer
transient, a masquerade where you can be whoever you want to.
Lomax, who has recently completed an MA in Fine Art at Central St
Martins, previously worked as a make-up artist creating fantasy
fashion characters for Vogue, The Face and ID.
This wishworld of make-believe glamour, teaming with models and
celebrities fuels her work as an artist.
In Alleyoops she shows a series of carnivalesque works connected
by magic, transformation and escapism with influences ranging from
Tennessee Williams The Fugitive Kind to the English
music hall to Elviss Comeback Special . This is an
otherworldly place where self-portraits scream and lonely figures
guard their gothic secrets under the tinkling of the crystal hung
ceiling.
